i looked and looked and compared prices for a lens i could leave on my camera for most everything. This lens is so versatile that i took only this ONE lens with me on vacation - and not have o carry 3 different lens' with me - great choice!!! this kit is everything you really need - the UV filter is a must. The lens hood creates a shadow in 18mm - is perfect without. This lens has a bit more range. It is heavier than the Nikon lens - but for the price and the versatility i can deal with it. Tamron lens are made so well - certainly NOT plastic and quality is comprobable with NIKON - go for this one for sure if you are looking for a wide range and a quality lens. Cameta is an excellent store to buy from online as well. Everything is brand new - in manufacture box - packed well, are very professional and customer satisfaction is what they are all about, hard to find these days- i have bought from them several times and have never been disappointed.
